So, what do you get when you load 41 kids, ranging in age from 7 to 17, on to a bus and drive them along the winding road toward the Tibetan border for 5 hours? A headache? Absolutely not!! You get countless smiles and giggles and a barrel-full of memories of an amazing two-night adventure camp that will serve as an important reminder that choosing to give up the bizarrely misconceived life of freedom on the street was actually a good choice to make! just-one on tour 2009

The latest buzz-word in global tourism, Responsible Travel, is often little more than an important phrase to be included in the glossy brochures and annual reports of those in the industry. Thankfully for just-one though, to our good friends at The Last Resort and Himalayan Encounters it’s a lot more than a mere notion of corporate responsibility. Due to the incredible kindness of both of these tour operators over the last few years, just-one has been able to offer many of the children it works with unprecedented rewards for their hard work and bravery, as well as worthy incentives to struggle on when times are tough, and all without dipping into our valuable funds which can remain intact and allow us to reach out to even more children in the year ahead.

Fast becoming an annual event in the just-one calendar, this year’s magical mystery tour came compliments of The Last Resort and saw almost half of the children we supports spend an unforgettable three days climbing up towering trees, abseiling down scary heights, camping out under the canopy of Himalayan stars, breathing clean fresh air, playing games, pushing their boundaries, rediscovering themselves, making new friends, smiling, laughing and having the kind of fun that epitomises a happy childhood. It was a truly magical experience for all kids and I’m certain that the countless memories created during the adventure will be dearly held by them for a long time to come!

A HUGE thank-you then to all involved for making the trip possible and for helping to make it such a memorable success! I can assure you that it was greatly appreciated by many and is something that you can be rightly proud of supporting – THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!
